The Transcontinental Railroad through union Pacific built this amazing new edifice of economic prosperity. It was the railroads that first introduced America to this idea that monopolies could be a problem. They monopoly starts exerting its influence on America in the 1870s and the 1880s. This eventually culminates in a blowback from agrarians and the Grange, and they passed the first antitrust act - Sherman Antitrust Act.
