The Hard Problem of Consciousness
The hard problem of consciousness is the problem of experience. We can say that a being is conscious in this sense or is phenomenally conscious, as it is sometimes put, when there's something it is like to be that being. But we know those experiences are closely associated with brains. Every conscious state corresponds to something material in the brain. So how do we explain how physical processes give rise to experience? It's no more necessary to talk about qualia or the subjective feeling of pain than it is to talk about the functioning of my car and so on.
