Non engineers being managers of engineering teams never makes sense, says Taft. You can't lose the respect of the people that you manage if you don't understand their struggles. There's an art to organization building, and its not one variable that you can really pull apart. At this early stage in a start-up it is important to get ahead of engineering before they think about getting there themselves.
