Despite the plan to immediately attack if a u two was shot down, kennedy decided to wait and see what happened. They thought that maybe this was some kind of accident. A few hours later, word arrived that another us. Reconnaissance plane had been shot and struck, but did not crash. And we didn't end up attacking after that either. So that was one of the three times nuclear war could have started on black saturday,. If we had not waited and just attacked after the u two wasshot down, we likely would have gone to nuclear war.
