At its peak, the Daily Carnage and Baghdad claimed the lives of 200 civilians a day. For years, I was not able to visit my friends who are living in different neighborhoods. It started as an insurgency of hard-line Sunnis attacking Americans. But by 2006, it had deteriorated into a civil war in all but name.
