Sarcoidosis: A Systemic Disease

Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease that affects more than one organ. It's uncertain etiology, characterized by exposure to unknown antigens. People have a predisposition to have an immune system that doesn't manage those antigens very well. And in doing so, the immune system sort of goes into overdrive and it forms these microscopic collections of immune cells called granulomas.
