Taking Pictures of People With Darker Skin Tones

Bario nex parello recalls his disastrous school picture day. The photographer prioritized the lighter skinned kids during the set up, which meant that the kids with darker skin tones just didn't look as good. But even if the photographer had finesced the lighting and camera setdings with a range of skin tones in mind, there would still be another problem. Film itself was optimized for white skin. If you imagine light as a gradient from black to white, there's only a small chunk of that gradient that's visible to a camera. There are ways to compensate for that in terms of how you might light something or how you might expose something.
