The person who is not morally masochistic will do whatever they can to escape those conditions. For somebody with moral masochism, it's like they'll complain bitterly about it but a part of them is really attached to the suffering. There's a way that they're reveling in it almost. All of these things are matters of degree. These aren't special, mysterious things that apply to some disturbed subset of the population. I mean, these are things thatapply to humans to varying degrees.
