In college, one of the projects I did was take to write a D calm interface. We knew from the onset that if we're ever going to appeal to Java users or C users or C++ users, it has to be a language in the curly brace family of languages. And for dotnet, it was like build a substrate that allows you to have multiple languages host on a common set of services.
