Taking a Pregnant Woman to Hospital
There are more than 900 villages in jiga state alone, and this vehicle clearly can't help all of them. So the governor decided to pay people who already owned vehicles a stipend to provide emergency transport when it's needed. Under this community transport scheme, the government pays the driver the equivalent of ten dollars for each pregnant woman they take to hospital. Since the new scheme was piloted in august, it has successfully transported more than 290 women to hospitals. But there is no single number that people can call, so if they aren't prepared, they might not know exactly who to contact in an emergency.
