Journalism used to be a working class middle class job with a very diverse kind of background going into it now it's an elite prestige job. The advertising revenue that funded most newspapers and dailies went to google and facebook so you have the only journalism jobs available at these kind of clickbaity online outlets. You're more likely to see people who came from a very privileged background who are really not connected to the lives of normal Americans.
