I Don't Think Lightning Is a Great Idea
There are large companies who use lightning now and see material transaction volume. They have a lot of funds locked up in lightning that are put at risk in something like this. There is no watchtower implementation that exists that would have avoided this issue because a watchtower is uses the same code, but be all of the current watchtower implementations don't enforce HTLC,HTLC forwards. So you can, yeah, there is a attack point with HTLC, which has a is a shorter, abstract walk time in it. But I think when the HTLC is claimed, the pre-image is revealed on chain anyway. It's not much easier to exploit than once the first bug was out
