The Complexity of Cognitive Processes
Theorizing that idea is something I've been working on recently. My primary theoretical interest is how those sorts of cultural evolutionary processes can contribute to the complexity of cognition. Thinking about population level processes as distributed computational processes gives you a way of viewing groups and multi-generational societies in sense of simple societies. So there are ways of thinking about social learning in populations as instantiated by distributed algorithms.
