The Pathophysiology of Lupus Nephritis
Lupus nephritis can end up leading to end stage kidney disease, which can result in somebody needing dialysis or even a kidney transplant. The places in our body that this inflammation often ends up causing damage very commonly are in our blood vessels, but also in any possible organ. In lupus, we're making these antibodies that target our own cells or things and structures within our own cells. And really, we can see this just generalized pattern of inflammation. It's attacking the tubules of the kidneys, as well as the blood vessels that lead into the kidneys.
