The History of Rabies

The first written references to rabies were in the Mesopotamium Codex of Eshnuna from around 4,000 years ago. If you had a rabid dog and didn't watch over it and then it ended up biting someone and killing them, you would be fined. From that point on, we see a lot of references to rabid or mad dogs. The word lissa has origins either in lycos, lycos for wolf or lud, L-U-D for violent.
