How to Motivate Someone Without Direction

The book is about essentially the education system, but it's very hard to apply this personally. It tells me that what I did was wrong, but how do I actually fix it? There wasn't a whole lot of that. The author says he simply wants to have a conversation about how to be active in my kids' education.
