One third of patients when they come into hospital are at risk of malnourishment. This has led to a trail of thought which promoted highly processed ready meals. But after the programme was broadcast, we had an email from one of the big companies making frozen hospital meals. He challenged us and Rob Percival on the truth of that highly processed description. Frozen, he said, could be as good as fresh and was not highly processed. Could what they prepare really compete with scratch cooking? Could they source as well as the on-site kitchens?
