Homer's Gods - Anotheism

Homer's gods offer a perfect illustration of something called anotheism. Anotheism is the belief in a primary deity who exists amidst other deities. Aphrodite backed Paris and the Trojans because Paris had earned her the Golden Apple. Athena promised martial power and great wisdom, and Aphrodite guaranteed that Paris would have Helen of Sparta as bride.
