Herd immunity is a good thing. It's nearly always generated by very widespread vaccination. To do it, unfortunately, vaccinate a lot of the population. And if your vaccine is not perfect, then you need to vaccinate more people than if it's perfect. But this is usually important for the long term sort of health of the society.
