The threat of a 14 billion dollar fine from the us. Authorities over its pre-crisis sale of moiseback securities weighed down Deutsche Bank's share price. Germany has never really, certainly for decades, had a strong banking sector. But you could argue that it's actually one of the reasons why german industry has been successful. The bank did start to get a handle on its mang issues. And at the same time, there was a technical change as well that german bonds were inherently less risky.

Three of the largest US banks beat profits expectations on Wednesday on the back of a strengthening US economy, and Egyptian authorities have seized the container ship that blocked the Suez Canal as they seek compensation of more than $900m from the Ever Given’s owners. Plus, the FT’s deputy editor, Patrick Jenkins, discusses Deutsche Bank’s turnaround after years as the “sick bank of Europe.”
