Subsidiarity

Tolkien says being called the Hobbit isn't an insult. It's a compliment to me, given what happens in the novel. So like they, the shire had to be elevated, but it was ready. Sam and the hobbits had potential that could do that, but they had to encounter other stuff. And that elevated, that elevated Sam, I love what Tolkien says about that.
