The Differences Between Forensic and Clean DNA Samples

The DNA sample we used for the Golden State Killer was from a 30-year-old rape kit. We were very lucky, it had been sitting in a freezer all that time. But some of the DNA is damaged. And so you're not dealing with the same kinds of nice, clean samples that somebody who's just doing their family history research would be.
