The History of Saccharin
saccharin is 550 times sweeter than sugar. In its pure form, it has a metallic aftertaste and can't be metabolized by humans. It was used in the first several years of the 20th century in the United States. The next major artificial sweetener, which was discovered, was cyclamate.
