The classical Greeks had several words to indicate slaves. The most general word for a slave is doulas, used in opposition to free man or elutharos. Comedic sources sometimes give us the sense of how slaves felt about these types of people. Many as quotes from 4th century BC comedic play by Epi-Kratis titled "The Slave Who Couldn't Be Sold"
