The Effects of Trauma on the Brain
A person will at times stay in that fight or flight in a continual manner. So to expect someone to do some other level activities like thinking learning new things is so diminished by their need, their hardwired impulse to survive. It really impacts people's ability to learn and to get things done as well as you can't connect relationally well when you're constantly anticipating danger or threat. That interferes with our normal functioning and day to day.
