Grifith's Claims to Invention
Griffith claimed to have invented the close up, long shot and cross cut editing. But with our modern ability to account for a wider, more international cinema hist almost all his claims to invention are easily walked back. Griffith was able to get away with claiming to such inventions because most of his audience did not have encyclopaedic knowledge of the history of film making.
