The Good Is Something, but Is It?
All action aims toward some purpose, and purposes mean the good riht a purpose. So this is what every soul pursues for the sake of which it does everything. The soul divines that it is something, but is unable to get a sufficient of just what it is. When it fixes itself on that which is illumined by truth and that which is it intellects, knows and appears to possess intelligence. But when it fixes itself upon that which is mixed with darkness, on coming into being and passing away, it opines and is dimmed,. changing opinions up and down - as though pure sight were not in them.
