The Paradox of Forgiveness
Forgiveness, though, doesn't seem at first glance to be at all paradoxical. All it is is one person acknowledging that they've been wronged and saying, I'm going to wipe the slate clean. But what Deereder says is that, if I can forgive you for stealing that tenor off me, in a sense, it was pretty easy. You were forgivable. And Deereder then smells a right in that. If it's possible to forgive you, it means you were forgiven. So, what did it need me to forgive you for it? Well, it seems to me that lots of things are edible, but they haven't yet been eaten.
