The Saudis' Reluctance to Support the US in the Cold War on China
CNN's John Defterios says he was "stunned" by the deal between China and Saudi Arabia. The two countries are seen as client states of the U.S., but they're not turning their back on America, defterios says. But there is a reluctance for them to get involved in Washington's cold war with China, or sanctions against Russia, he adds. For Beijing, stability in Iran and Saudi Arabia's neighborhood is existentially important; it really is important that tensions in the region never lead to actual conflict,"Defterios writes.
