When we try to solve the business problem, machine learning is not always the best solution. Often, you need to plot your data and then notice you have nothing to do at all. There are so many ways that it's not useful. We weren't using BERT or anything at the time. I think some of the advances in the ease of which you can use BERT and other transformers to re-rank was just too slow.
