All 151 seats of the lower house are up for grabs. Whoever wins a majority in the house of reps, or like julia gillard did in two thousand and ten, able to cobble together enough support from others, will form the government. Forty of the 76 seats in the upper house, the senate, are also up for election. Those who are successful there get a six year term. Electing our senators works very differently.
