In the 19 50s Canada dumped racial classifications because they looked at the horrors of the holocost. America might almost have gone that way, except we had a sort of individual, an independent, race associated political ogenda,. i e, the civil rights movement. We were like mena to care about equality between the races which meant constructing a buraucracy that was focussed on redistributing access to good services and jobs. And then once you had sort of a position of privilege in the legal sense that could be afforded to peopl on certain classes, i think thoay, there's a huge amount of jockeying around what you do or don't
