Alexander Shulgin's Psychonauts

Alexander Shulgin was a chemist who synthesized dozens, hundreds of psychedelic and psychoactive compounds. He wasn't trying to patent his drugs or get them licensed by the FDA. So he self experimented with them. And so he's the kind of model for that, um, sort of type of independent underground chemist which then in subsequent decades started to refer to themselves as psychonauts.
