Ishiguro has an ability to create this unsettling feeling without showing the stitching. I like how he's sort of accused of being too mannered, but I actually think it's a compliment. Marcus is the author of Notable American Women and the Age of Wire and String. His new novel, The Flame Alphabet, will be published by Knopf in 2012.
