The Effects of Vegan Protein on Muscle Protein Synthesis Rates

The amount of ingested lucine required to maximally stimulate the muscle protein synthetic machinery may be modulated by its protein matrix. Plant-based proteins may provide the same amount of lucine simply by providing an equivalent amount of protein based on their intrinsic lucine content. For example for corn-derived proteins it contains 13.5% lucine. Ingestion of merely just 20 grams of corn would provide 2.7 grams of lucine. 25 grams of other plant-based proteins would have to be ingested to deliver 2.7grams of lucine in a vegan diet. They say that you would need 71 grams of quinoa to provide 2.8 grammes of lucine,
