The Importance of Impartiality in Systems
I think when we don't trust people to be making choices for efficiency reasons then we often impose some just uniform approach. I mean it seems to me that pretty often we have norms about impartiality that introduce inefficiencies so the demand to be impartial has a tendency to make at least in my experience make systems less efficient.
