The Threat of Identity Politics

I have long had a deep interest in the business of lifting people out of hunger and out of poverty. I wouldn't use the word globalization to describe mutually beneficial trade arrangements. There's no obstacle to cooperation among independent nations where they see mutual interests. The temptation, which America has not resisted, is to say our rules-based international order is for everybody's benefit. That means that we have, in fact, a mission to impose it by force on those people who don't believe it's in their interest.
