The Cultural Revolution in China - Zhang Hai Di
Zhang Hai di is president of the China Disabled Persons Federation. Her story resonated with a lot of people at the time, because here we have somebody who traditionally was considered to be weak in body but strong in terms of her perseverance and determination. She really set up this this this jang-hyde effect, which saw people's understanding of disability as being something that could be overcome through either cure or rehabilitation. If you didn't do it, then there was some sort of failing within yourself. And so these four selves really became the core about how people should see their lives. The media also, for the most part, presented disability as undesirable, something to be feared. So still
