Strasma: Smear campaigns are an exercise in excusing laziness. It's just not the case that to read something carefully means to agree with everything that's written in it. We need to think about big problems, which means we're going to have to think through thoughts that may be against our own. And there may be times where you have to do some sort of civic campaign to dissuade people from studying if we're talking about what can be gained in thoughtful circles.
