After Rudolph dies in 1291, his son is not elected, so his son then contests the election. The Habsburgs respond to this with a beautiful, kind of a beautiful, nostalgic attack. Charles promulgates something called the Golden Bowl in 1346, which is a statute of imperial governance that includes electoral procedures.
