Transgender Rights - Transitional by Elizabeth Bergdorf
In the latest census for England and Wales, only 0.2% of the population identified as transgender - equally split between men and women. The issue has caused a mighty schism between Scotland and the rest of Britain. While arguments rage in Westminster over the Scottish Government's gender recognition reform bill, we've heard remarkably little from trans people themselves. Bergdorf tells me how she was ostracised by her white British mother and black Jamaican father when they lived in Essex. She says barely a day passes where we don't evolve or transition in some way. Transitional is a clever, moving book that packs a lot into its 194 pages.
