The Importance of Big History in Moral Concern

Big history can help people develop empathy for other species, particularly for large brainy species. We need to care about the bacteria in our gut because they have more bacterial cells in our bodies than we have cells with our own DNA. So I hope this is one of many ways of increasing our sensitivity to the suffering of other species. At the moment, we're a horribly cruel and damaging species.
