Crime and punishment became one of the biggest world novels because it's the first time the crime story was written in such a way that it appeals to crime readers and also to intellectual readers. It also includes the incredible description of suffering of a person who commits the crime, and ally makes him almost a positive hero. The eukranian novelist andrey korkov does see crime and punishment as as a detective novel, a crime novel, but as a very innovative one.
