The experiment was conducted only in the American League as National League president Warren Giles was reported to be opposed. The story continued in granting approval for the experiment. Cronin clearly specified that the player who will pinch hit must be designated before the game and he will not be allowed to pinch hit twice in the same inning. While this fairytale did not come true, Hank Aaron, the man who broke Ruth's record, spent his last two seasons serving as a DH for the Milwaukee Brewers.
