The Importance of Micro Expressions

The micro expression is a very brief involuntary facial expression that we make when we feel an intense emotion. It was discovered by Dr Paul Ekman who's a an amazing nonverbal researcher. He figured out that people across cultures, across races, across sexes make the same facial expressions for different emotions. The reason why this is important and not just interesting and informative is because it's the basis of empathy. If we can read people's facial expressions without even paying attention to their words, we are able to spot hidden emotions. We can see how someone truly feels about us - and we can detect deception.
