What Happens to Tidal Power?
The business of harnessing the energy of the continuous ebb and flow around our little island's coast just hasn't yet delivered. One multi billion pound plan for a tidal range scheme in the severn estuary was cancelled more than a decade ago, mainly because of environmental concerns. Since then, other smaller tidal lagoons have been planned around that area and in merseyside. Tidal stream installations are basically turbines carefully placed offshore where tidal currents are particularly strong. And with their huge tidal range, whales and the west coast have become the focal point for a new generation of both types of tidal power. So is the revolution finally happening?
