The Battle of Sparta

The Persians had already arrived in Attica before the Athenians even concocted a plan on how they were going to defend their city and their land. This lack of preparedness, in addition to a lack of joint action with their Eretrians, shows very little forethought by the Athenians. Phidipides went to Sparta to bear the news and ask for their assistance. The Spartans said that no Spartan army was allowed to engage in battle until after the next full moon,. which was about a week to ten days later.
