The Nobel Prizes don't release any of the anything about who was up for it or the deliberations. It turns out Steinbeck was just some weird like compromised choice that everybody could get behind. I think when they asked Steinbeck about it, if he deserved it, he was like, frankly, no. He said, no, he didn't,. he didn't think he did.
