Slavery is categorically different from, say, hajab or prohibition of zena. Where do you put limits on individual interpretation? A mustafa may not agree with patrasti, but other people do not have a problem with that. In order to understand what was timeless about them, and what is universal and particular, you need to go back to the text and to the poran and sunna.
