How to Refinance a Fixed Rate Mortgage
In recent years both academics and personal finance gurus have advised the same thing, fixed rate mortgages. In different macroeconomic environments their advice would likely clash. Academic research advises either buying a smaller home or putting less money down in a risk-shifting model if you are more pessimistic about expected housing returns. Many of the books recommend paying off your mortgage early citing the emotional reward of living debt free.
